It might be perceived as a over-critical to begin with a suggestion or idea, but that's just the way i roll. I think the traveller in this image and his camels might have a better sense of setting, if there were some deep footsteps or displacement in the snow behind them. They also could be a little deeper in the snow themselves, to give a greater sense of the danger and violent weather they are going through. It might also work the other way and give the characters more of a purpose in leaving their mark on the image (as at the moment they appear to be moving through undisturbed). It's just an idea, because to be the way characters are presented in an image tells me a lot about how they react to their surroundings.
The use of shadow in this image however is fantastic. I love the detail and the effects created by each and every shadow. Using colour to draw attention to the characters is a good tool, and the strong red really defines the characters (yes both the traveller AND the camels ) as being courageous and strong-willed, perhaps valiant. And as always the work on terrain looks really nice, and the lack of unnecessary detail is a great way to draw focus
